With 6 more days to go for the mega blockbuster at Moscow, the fitness concerns of Terry, Drogba and Carvalho remain the main talking points as far as the Blues are concerned. Although Avram Grant had said after the Bolton match that Drogba's injury didn't look good, the striker has issued a statement that he'll be fit for the final. He also declared that captain John Terry would lead them in the final.
Marcel Desailly has come up with a statement saying Chelsea are favorites to win the title in Moscow. He believes the Blues have a psychological edge over the Reds, since their match at the Bridge last month. The French defender and former Chelsea player remains the only man to win back-to-back Champions League titles with different clubs. He believes victory at the Luzhniki Stadium would go a long towards eliminating the disparity between the club’s high-flying image and their comparatively barren trophy case.
There is also further good news to the Blue fans because there are reports that Carvalho will be fit for the final. He picked up a back injury against Newcastle United, and didn't play against Bolton. Arguably he is Chelsea's best player this season and I would love to see him completely fit and injury free for this big match. Another of his Porto teammate Jose Bosingwa's arrival should further brighten the spirits of Carvalho.
Meanwhile its Drogba who is doing all the talking for Chelsea nowadays. He says the finals might go to penalties and that he's looking forward to the great final. Tell me is there a soccer fan not looking forward to the match on May21st? I guess no. The Ivorian hitman regrets that he has not had the opportunity thus far to play more often with his fellow forward, and believes Anelka could prove the difference in Moscow next Wednesday. A 4-3-3 used throughout the season meant Anelka haven't got enough chances since he arrived in January.
"Quit playing mind games" is Avram Grant's message to he counterpart in the United side. Ferguson has very shrewdly attempted to claim the underdog role but Grant says both teams are level. Grant has warned Ferguson that his mind games will not have any effect on our team and it will be a waste of time. Here's a video on Avram Grant's thoughts on the final on next Wednesday.
Ryan Gigg's admits he wouldn't be in the starting eleven for the final. His goal was helpful in sealing the crown in their last league match against Wigan. Meanwhile, Sir Bobby Charlton, spoke of his belief last night that winning the trophy would be the perfect way to end a poignant season for the club. The 26 year old Evra, who had a fight with the ground staff at the Bridge last month, wants to win this final at any cost because he lost against Porto in 2004 playing for Monaco. Evra is determined to put the records straight and forget the defeat at Gelsenkirchen.
