Chelsea Sack Avram Grant

Chelsea has sacked Head Coach Avram Grant after he had two days of talks with Chief Executive Peter Kenyon. This move was expected after Grant failed to deliver any silverware this season, though he agonizingly came close.

A statement on the Chelsea official website reads: “Chelsea football club can confirm that Avram Grant has had his contract terminated today (Saturday 24th May). This follows meetings over the last two days." The statement also included this “Everybody at Chelsea FC would like to thank Avram for his contribution since taking over as manager last September. We will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager for Chelsea and there will be no further comment until that appointment is made.”

The likes of Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini and Frank Rijkaard, who's jobless now, will now be strongly tipped to take over at Chelsea. Chelsea needs someone like Rijkaard who has the charisma to attract big players and manage the stars in the club. Everyone would agree that Grant was good, as a mid-season replacement manager, but not as a long term replacement.

I seriously expected that Grant would stay. I mean, he only just missed silverware by whisker both in England and at Europe.

It was a do or die challenge for him and the Club had made it clear. And he failed on most big occasions. He was great, but greater managers are out there

it was good that grant was sacked..din like his appointment either....his style of football is not at all suited for Chelsea..firstly it was foolish to show Jose the door and seems like Chelsea paid for that...hope they get a BETTER manager this time..
