After the goal feast against Derby, the Blues prepare to face another relegation candidate. But Sunderland on home turf, as we know is more than capable of causing an upset. And unlike Jewell, Roy Keane wouldn't like the underdog tag given to them. Though I believe Chelsea's quota of being on the receiving side of upsets are over this season, the Black Cats may have other plans in store at the 'Stadium of Light'.
Chelsea played professionally and clinically mid-week and Avram Grant would want his team to play the same sort of football. Though he wouldn't expect his team to score half a dozen against Gordon and his defensive wall. Prior to the Toffees' arrival last Sunday, Roy Keane's men had taken 16 points from a possible 21 on their own turf. Keane believes his defensive unit is getting better with every match.
Kenwyne Jones might be the lone striker upfront for Sunderland and Grant would know he can do what Odejayi did to them last week. Alex may come in for Carvalho in the defense. Grant may not chose to tinker any further with the defense. And maybe Makalele will be given a rest and Essien given a full game to find his long lost form. Its time the man from Ghana rose to our expectations.
The most probable change upfront might be that Drogba may get a much needed game at the expense of Anelka, but Joe and Kalou may remain as wingers. Ballack and Lampard are sure to marshal the midfield, their partnership flourishing with every match.
Sunderland haven't scored for a month now and will be boosted by the return of winger Carlos Edwards. And injured keeper Cech may still remain in the sidelines and Cudicini will be in his place. Its important for the Blues not to lose focus now. Lets hope for a goal each from Essien and Drogba.
